Apple and walnut jam

Considering the fact that today is St. Alexander (Happy birthday to all Alexanders, saints or not :P) I decided to make a dessert to celebrate the occasion. Because I had loads of apples (and I'm not a fan of fruits in general) the chosen recipe was Apple and walnut jam.
From now on I will try to post all my recipes in English so my friends from abroad can try them if they are tempted :P
So here it goes:

450 gr apples without skin, 50 gr butter, 85 gr brown sugar, juice and rind from a lemon, 1 tablespoon cognac or rum, 100 gr walnuts

Cut the apples in small cubes. In a large saucepan melt the butter. Add the apples, sugar, juice and lemon rind. Mix it well, cover and let it simmer for 10 minutes. Remove the lid, add the nuts and keep on the stove for another 5 minutes or till the syrup has evaporated. Add the cognac and serve warm.

Arabela

OMG, I turned on the Tv and there she was - Arabela - the princess of my childhood :)
I was so happy to see it, it still captures your imagination even after more than 20 years :P
You can see it every Saturday and Sunday on TVR2 at 13.00.
When I was last month in Rokycany everybody wanted to know what I know about Czech Republik. And the first thing that came to my mind was Arabela, Rumburak! I brought the house down... they laughed like crazy :)) and then they played the Ring song just for me :D
For nostalgics like me, find some time at the weekend to watch it...

August 27th

I received an email, like many friends of mine, about the 27th of August - the date when Mars is as big as the Moon and the closest to the Earth...
Of course I started to surf the net for details and I found out that it was an email hoax, because this happened on 27th of August... 2003!!!
But I found out some interesting things about this date on the Wikipedia site:
- in 1916 Romania declares war against Austria-Hungary, entering World War I as one of the Allied nations
- in 1961 the fashion designer Tom Ford is born.
- in 1979 an IRA bobm kills admiral Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma and 3 others while they are boating on holiday in Sligo, Republic of Ireland. Another bomb near Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland kills 18 British soldiers.
- in 1985 the little Picasso - Alexandra Nechita is born.
And also is the National Day of Moldavian Republic.
